The Tohono O’odham Nation, a federally recognized Tribal Organization with one of the highest rates of substance abuse among all populations in the U.S., will implement a comprehensive peer-to-peer program to support individuals in recovery with a full range of culturally-appropriate recovery support services in the eleven districts that comprise the Nation. The project will engage at least four individuals from each of the eleven districts of the Nation to serve as peer mentors and promote recovery. Each peer mentor will provide peer-to-peer support services to at least three individuals each year, for a total of 528 individuals served over the 4-year project. Trained peer mentors also will facilitate at least one recovery support service each year to enable the Nation to reestablish culturally appropriate individual and community supports for recovery to individuals and their family members who seek help.
